Anthony Doerr is a writer you hear a lot of good things about from other writers, and for good reason. His new collection of stories, Memory Wall , is lovely and moving, and it's one of my Best of the Month picks for July. The book's title is also the title of one of the stories, but it serves all six of them, as it's a collection that's tied together by theme in a way that's pretty rare: memory is of course one of the great subjects and motivators of fiction, but Doerr's stories, wildly ranging in character and setting, call it up explicitly again and again.
