In the second week of our series on summer page turners, I want to turn to a sub-genre within mysteries — the Hollywood Crime Novel. My favorite Hollywood crime novel is The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy . First released in 1987, The Black Dahlia takes the true details of the unsolved 1947 Elizabeth Short murder and creates a fictional story of a police detective determined to solve the case.
