  The Library of Congress's Copyright Office ruled Monday that phones can now be legally jailbroken by users and that jailbreaking is "innocuous at worst and beneficial at best," reports PCMag.com. The ruling will affect smartphones including Apple Inc's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone line. Apple officials released a statement to Cult of Mac saying: "Apple's goal has always been to [ensure] that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience. "As we've said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably." The company's online support page outlines further concerns Apple has with jailbreaking iPhones and company officials wrote, "It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of the iOS is a violation of the iPhone end-user license agreement. Because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software." SmarTrend currently has Apple in aDowntrend.   Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) officials said Tuesday that Mac desktop computers are getting revamped with spec upgrades, upped iMac and Mac Pro offerings and a new trackpad to use in place of a regular mouse, reports MarketWatch. New specs for Apple's iMacs were announced earlier today and the company also introduced a Mac Pro tower desktop with up to 12 processing cores. Another addition to the Mac family is the Magic Trackpad which uses multi-touch technology like the iPhone; MacBooks have been linked with similar trackpads in the past.   HTC Corp. Furious Over Apple Inc. C...
  Officials from HTC Corp. announced Monday that Apple Inc's (NASDAQ:AAPL) antenna issues are not a problem for other smartphone manufacturers and that Apple should try to fix the iPhone 4's network-reception issues before spreading the blame to other smartphone manufacturers. Apple CEO Steve Jobs highlighted the antenna-reception issues via a video of HTC's Droid Eris, Research in Motion Ltd's (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry Bold 9700 and Samsung's Omnia II last Friday during a press conference on the iPhone 4s problematic antenna that causes calls to drop when held in a particular manner; Jobs hoped the videos would highlight the idea that all smartphones are not perfect and face reception issues as a whole. Jobs affirmed that the iPhone 4 drops one more call per 100 than the 3GS model, and offered free cases and bumper refunds to customers beginning later this week. HTC chief financial officer Hui-Meng Cheng commented, "Apple should face its own problems." Shares of Apple are trading down 2.84% Monday morning at $242.81.
