  Author and illustrator Maurice Sendak talks about his Caldecott-winning picture book, Where the Wild Things Are, and the 1979 opera version of the book. Sendak collaborated with composer Oliver Knussen to create the opera. This video is from a DVD by the Rosenbach Museum & Library in Philadelphia, www.rosenbach.org. The Rosenbach is the sole repository of the original artwork of Maurice Sendak and a foremost authority on all things Sendak. Author of Where the Wild Things Are and 108 other books, Sendak, now 81 years old, chose the Rosenbach to be the permanent home of his work in the early 1970s thanks to shared literary and collecting interests. The Rosenbach's Sendak collection is the largest collection of Sendakiana in the world, with over 10000 preliminary sketches, final drawings, manuscripts, books, and ephemera.   Professor and history author Simon Schama appears at the National Book Festival. Speaker Biography: Simon Schama is University Professor of Art History and History at Columbia University. He taught history at Cambridge and Oxford universities and art history and history at Harvard before coming to Columbia. His books have been translated into 15 languages and include "Patriots and Liberators: Revolution and Government in the Netherlands 1780-1813" (1977), "The Embarrassment of Riches: An Interpretation of Dutch Culture in the Golden Age" (1987), "Rembrandt's Eyes" (1999) and "The Power of Art" (2007), which was also an eight-part series on PBS. His books have won the Wolfson Award for History, the WH Smith Prize for Literature; the National Academy of Arts and Letters Award for Literature and the National Book Critics' Circle Award for Nonfiction. His new book is "The American Future: A History" (2009), which is also the title of his four-part BBC documentary.
